Record quick, polish never

A timely, unpolished video beats a perfect one that arrives too late

In 2027, the teams that win publish while the moment still matters. Timely beats perfect.

Some moments won't wait. A platform update your customers are trying to make sense of. A change everyone at work is talking about. An industry shift that deserves a closer look. Each one gives people a reason to watch that no scheduled post can fake, but only while it's fresh. That's why, in 2027, more teams will treat timely video as a format of its own, with a process built to deliver it.

That window rarely leaves room for a polished production, and the video usually doesn't need one. Sprout Social found that 93% of consumers believe it's important for brands to keep up with online culture, and 27% think joining a trend only works in the first 24–48 hours. In PlayPlay's 2026 survey, teams were twice as likely to say raw, authentic content beats over-polished content as the reverse. A clear, on-brand video recorded today will do more than a perfect one delivered next week.

Speed still needs judgment. A third of consumers find it embarrassing when brands jump on viral trends. The skill is knowing which conversations you can genuinely add to, recording while they matter, and aiming for clear and on-brand rather than flawless.

In the wild

Who's already doing it

  • Astronomer

    A “very temporary” spokesperson

In July 2025, after an unplanned viral moment at a Coldplay concert, the B2B data company released a short video with Gwyneth Paltrow as a “very temporary” spokesperson. Its official LinkedIn post steered the attention back to its data orchestration message.

Takeaway: Acknowledge the moment, don't over-explain, and bring it back to what you can credibly own.

  • Stanley

    The president answers on camera

In November 2023, a TikTok showed a Stanley cup surviving a car fire. The brand's president posted a video offering to replace the woman's car.

Takeaway: Speed, plus a leader on camera.

  • PlayPlayMade with PlayPlay

A weekly marketing news video series

Our own marketing team runs a weekly marketing news video series, made with PlayPlay.

Takeaway: You probably already react to the news in your industry. Why not turn that into a video format?

Put it into practice

Where to start

  1. 01

Choose moments where you have something to contribute

A customer question, an industry development, or a cultural moment can justify a response. Check whether it matters to your audience and whether your perspective adds something useful.

  2. 02

    Make timely video repeatable

Build a production process that reduces the work required to create, edit, and approve each video. Reusable formats, ready-to-use assets, and straightforward editing give your teams a head start.

  3. 03

    Clear the path to publication

Agree who can approve a timely response and which subjects need specialist review. Set those boundaries before an opportunity arrives.
